Day: 27 of 35

Date: Wednesday October 5, 2022
Location: Georgetown

Thoughts

This was a very welcome rest day, our last of three--another clear day, unseasonably warm and sunny. We are enjoying the Georgetown Historic Inn and this little town. I was able to get a much needed load of laundry done as well as a few small errands. We had a short lovely walk this afternoon to a small coffee/gift shop and then to the wharf. Jerry got a number of tasks accomplished and I enjoyed an hour on the balcony with my book.

The inn we are in has some interesting issues. When the power was restored (involving a new power line and meter) it affected the security system which has not been used in the past 8 years. The first night we were here it went off 3 times between 4:30 and 5:00 am when linesmen left to go to work. Last night it was triggered at 11:00 pm and again at 1:20 am, when someone returned to the inn late at night. When Jerry offered to look at fuses this morning with the proprietor, they discovered that the basement was wet--the hot water was leaking. So as a result the proprietor needed to get someone in for the hot water tank as well as to disconnect the security system. We will see what this night brings...

Dinner for the 3rd night in a row at the Clam Digger restaurant in Cardigan, quite tasty. Tomorrow another 20 km walk, likely with some rain.

  1. The security alarm story - yikes. Hope the rest of the time was peaceful.

  2. Actually the security alarm was the start. In offering to turn off the alarm by pulling the fuse in basement panel, I followed her down the basement stairs when she noticed water on the dirt basement floor. Her 70-gallon hot water tank's valve was spewing forth hot water. Her sump pump should have kicked in, but her sump pump backup battery was depleted because it was on during the outage. A perfect storm!
